Where can I get info/costs on CPR breathing masks? |
I'm working on a proposal to get defibrillators installed at work and training for them. It looks pretty favorable it will go through. However, I'm still looking for info on breathing masks. Either pocket masks or larger ones that would be stationed with the AED. Would the masks stop vapors from inhaled nitroglycerin spray? What are the affects of nitro on a healthy person? Haji, the reports I've read show that AED usage with CPR increases the survivablilty of a heart attack victim almost 5 fold. Plus, I've been involved in a situation where an AED was used and saved the person's life. Try your local Red Cross You can often get cheap one-time masks from imprinting shops for a great price, otherwise google 'cpr mask' for many sources. We have them Velcroed on or near all AEDs, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, emergency route maps, and fire pull stations and many phones where I work. Very commandable effort, but in the last year two observational studies have been published in which a BETTER neurological outcome (less brain damage after the rescucitation) has been documented when using external cardiac massage only CPR instead of pausing the cardiac massaging (which pumps blood around the body including the brain!) to administer one or two breaths. If one has not drowned, the victim will still gasp for air so it is more important to concentrate on the external heart massage which is difficult enough for lay people to do and not loose precious time trying do ventilate the victim. Btw., don't worry about nitroglycerin vapours from the mouth of the victim, it is so diluted so won't harm you; and should you want to try to ventilate, a mask is most akward to handle for lay people, with air leaking all around the edges, the only workable thing, if you are with two people doing the rescucitation is still mouth to mouth breathing, don't forget to clear the mouth and throat before stretching the neck of the victim of make the airways open, and close off the nose so not to loose air from the nostrils. Any chance of doing a CPR course, which is more than AED training, so to be better prepared just in case? Good luck! Try edwards medical. |
