AED/ Pacemaker Usage? |
I would like to know if you can apply a shock to an individual with a pacemaker, would the Aed read the pacemaker and if shocked would it damage the pacemaker and not shock the heart properly, I teach the aed class but am getting conflicting information, some say you can some say you cant, any information or websites would be helpful. Contact the American Heart Association Yes you can. yes but not on it. Electrical defibrillation is the only technique definitively proven to be of benefit in vfib or pulseless vtach cardiac arrest. If a patient has one of these rhythms I would not worry about whether the pacemaker will survive the shocks or not. |
