A question about CPR when no AED is nearby?

If one is administering CPR to a female and no AED is present, is it necissary to remove the "constrictive clothing", or could the bra remain to maintain the dignity of the patient?

AED or not, when doing CPR, the clothes are coming off.

I don't worry about preserving modesty when trying to save someone's life. Besides, "look, listen and fee" are all part of CPR. I can't do that effectively when clothes are in the way so...off they come.

Trauma shears make short work of clothes. I keep mine razor sharp so I can cut quickly and easily.

I don't think a patient in cardiac arrest is really going to care about their clothes. At least, no one has complained to me yet.

When you are doing CPR, you will be compressing the chest in such a manner that buttons, bra, zipper will acually tear the skin. Besides would the person rather be embarressed or dead?

You should still cut the strap between the cups at least. Makes it easier to vent your patient. Dignity kinda goes out the door at the point you need CPR, and if the live to ***** you out....all the better!

You should remove the quote "constrictive clothing". I think that survial during cardiac arrest is more important than dying with dignity.
I work in an emergency department, and by the time the paramedics get "coded", or patients without a pulse/respirations, to us they have usually already removed their clothing.
I think that if i was in the situation you mentioned above I would remove the clothing and administer CPR.

you can leave the bra on. beacuse you do CPR alittle lower then the bra line. you start at the bellybotton and go up until to get to the rib cage and then you start CPR so it is ok to leave the bar on. you can leave the shirt on too if you feel more comfortable doing it that way.

As soon as you find that the patient lacks a pulse, you should strip the shirt and bra off, as well as undo the waistband of the pants/skirt/shorts/whatever. You want as much possibility for circulation as possible, and you should always check the whole body for any kind of trauma. The medical term for trauma and unconscious patients "strip and flip" (taking the clothes off, scanning the body, and putting the patient on a hard surface for compressions and/or immobilization) applies here.

No you dont remove any clothing of any sort, only the AED team can to administer a shock.
