Their blood screening is not always acurate. Its a shame they push blood transfusions so much when there are so many other options,Blood expanders-ect. Im not shure what is wrong but i hope all is well.

Thanks..Im getting a liver check very soon..:) Report It

Don't waste you time on Yahoo! Answers. The cause of what you're experiencing may or may not have anything to do with the blood products you received 3 years ago. See your doctor for evaluation. This may very well be treatable.

And are you aware that one of the adverse effects of modafinil is ataxia, an impaired ability to coordinate movements? Other adverse effects are parethesias (odd sensations that can be tingling, burning, numbness), dyspnea (difficulty breathing) and joint disorder. By all means, report your symptoms to your doctor.

FYI: There are not "so many" other options to transfusion. There are few. Cow's blood, autologous (self-donated and banked in advance and feasible only if blood loss is anticipated) and directed donor (family member or friend). Bloodless is not always an option but can be utilized when appropriate. Another possibilty are volume expanders (what the lady is calling blood expanders). These are Ringer's lactate, normal saline, D5W and colloid-based fluids. Something new may be coming along - Oxygen therapeutics. These increase oxygen transportability of the blood. Hemopure, Oxygent and PolyHeme are such therapeutics and are now in clinical trials in the U.S.

the nurse has some good valid points.....however, i would also like to advise you on diseases that can actually cause you to be misdiagnosed with narcolepsy and the main one would be hepatitis c- a liver disease that can go undiagnosed because standard liver panel tests do not always indicate there is a problem. anotherwords, your alt and ast levels can remain uneffected and you can still have chronic hepatitis c.

i have been given provigil AFTER treatment for hcv to deal with "brain fog" which i had for 20 years prior to treatment....which is like narcolepsy of some sort, or at least mimics it. I can't tolerate the medication because I noticed the day after not taking one i was a blubbering idiot.

Anyway. I would definately get tested for antibodies for HCV as it can cause CNS disorders as well as every symptom you've got now. I wouldn't wait, I'd ask the doctors. Have them test you regardless if your liver enzymes are within normal limits....this is one reason why so many get treated for symptoms instead of the actual causative agent: HCV.

good luck!
I know the feeling!
