Forensic/doctors, pls help: if you just had a blood transfusion and u killed someone, hus DNA would be found?

i just wanted to make the question more intriguing? :)

but anyway, if u just had a blood transfusion, of course your dna is different from the blood to be injected unto u.. (i know, red blood cells dont have dna, imagine platelet..) what is the process it takes for the DNA A (donor) to become DNA B (yours)? how long would it take for the DNA A to acquire your DNA?

* this is a seriously scientific question.. =)

imagine platelet transfusion (from having dengue)..that will contain DNA..

and pls explain ur answers..

tnx.. =)

The blood that is injected into you during a transfusion does not have much if any DNA. The only cells that carry DNA that are in the blood are white blood cells. The majority of the time you are given either packed red blood cells or packed platelets. This means that virtually all of the other blood components have been removed (excluding some of the fluid- plasma). Red blood cells have an average life span of 120 days, so theoretically some of the red blood cells from the transfusion would be present in you for up to 120 days. However, you have enough blood in your system that it would dilute this blood down quite a bit. While interesting to talk about, in practicality the situation you talked about would not occur.

A more interesting phenomenon is chimerism. I'll leave that to you to look up!

RBCs do not contain DNA. DNA is the white blood cells. The only way to obtain the donor's DNA, would be through a whole blood transfusion - which is very rare. Blood transfusions usually involve RBCs, platelets, plasma, and cryo.

White blood cells contain DNA. Platelets are not white blood cells.
