Nursing. Blood transfusion. KVO drip rate? |
Ok i have a practical exam in afew days, and one of them involves blood transfusion. I know i have to KVO (keep the vein opened) which indicates that the drip rate will be slow. It says on special order 100ml of normal saline TKVO. When i came to calculate drip rate i got confused because i know the blood has to run over 2 hours (1 unit (240ml) pack cells). WHATS THE DRIP RATE that i have to start the normal saline? Im confused. Your formula is correct. The responder who said 20ml/day. Would have you clogging off the IV. Most importantly as a student in this field I have to wonder about why you would have to come ask a bunch of non-medical personnel to answer this question. You have your instructor, books for the class, an fellow classmates. KVO is certainly much less than 20 ml/Hr. Please check if it is 24 ml/day (1 ml/Hr). |
