Is a blood transfusion needed in this situation!?

Hello i am a 17 year old female and i have been feeling really really tired lately and very dizzy! Also my head hurts when i get up really quick! I was at school in one of my nursing classes and my teacher suggested that i check my hemoglobin levels so we pricked my finger and checked it and it came back as 7.4! she told me that i should go see my doctor!!

I do not have heavy periods they are actually really light! and i have not noticed any blood in my stool!
I was just wondering what i should do! The past few days all i have wanted to do is sleep or lay around!! Please Help me!!!

I am not pregnant!!!

My teacher said that may need a blood transfusion is this true!!

Yes, a blood transfusion is definitely a possibility. More likely, the doctor will place you on iron supplements and maybe insist on a little more protein in your diet.

Go to the doctor

You may be suffering from iron deficiency anemia and you need to make an appt. with your doctor.

What are the normal values for haemoglobin

Males: 13 to 17 gm/dl (grams per decilitre)

Females: 12 to 16 gm/dl

What are the abnormal results?
Less than normal levels are seen in various types of anaemia (low haemoglobin concentration):

Malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies of iron, folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6

Red blood cell destruction due to a transfusion reaction

Haemorrhage (bleeding)

Lead poisoning

Excessive intake of fluids (over hydration 鈥?temporary dilution of haemoglobin level)

More than normal levels may be seen in:

Congenital heart disease

Lung diseases like cor pulmonale and lung fibrosis.

go to see your GP he can help you.

If I were you goes see your doctor.

What is Hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and returns carbon dioxide from the tissues to the lungs. The iron contained in hemoglobin is responsible for the red color of blood.

You need to see a Dr. You probably have iron deficiency anemia. This can be treated. You usually will have to get injections of B 12. It will help. GET TO A DR RIGHT AWAY

That is way too low, go to your doc, start taking iron, I suffer from chronic anemia origin unknown. They like your numbers to around 12, I'm usually around 10.7 and they get all excited, my sis had numbers like you and she did need a blood tranfusion, but don't panic, just see a doc.
