Brain dead?

My cousin who is 42 years old went in the bathroom two nights ago and didn't come out. When someone went to see what was taking her so long, they found her unresponsive on the commode. 911 was called. Upon her arrival at the hospital, she was admitted and my Aunt was told that she was brain dead and had only 24 hours to live. Well its been almost 48 hours and she is still living. I went to see her yesterday, her eyes were opened but unusally large. She didn't blink but when I spoke to her and told her who I was she started shaking her head left to right very fast. When I told her i loved her a tear rolled down her face. Is that a person who is brain dead?

Medical background She has had diabetes all her life. Her mom past away in her 40s from diabetes and her father passed in his 50's with diabetes.

No she is not brain dead. She my have some brain damage. She have some neurology tests done.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt! She is not brain dead,you would have had not response at all. I hope things get better!

WOW! That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. I am sorry for your cousin and your mom but I do not think she is brain dead because she would have definitely not had responded to you in any kind of way.

Do they possibly mean that she has some resultant brain damage due to being in a state of a diabetic coma?
