Pain/Stress-induced Cardiac Arrest? |
Could an 82 year old female patient with an otherwise healthy heart and lungs receiving treatment of Heparin & Warfarin ONLY, for a non-fatal Pulmonary Embolism experience a cardiac arrest if REPEATEDLY caused to experience agonising pain due to mismanaged handling while attempting to recover from the emboli?. Mental stress causes the heart to work harder. If she was in a lot of pain of course this was causing a lot of mental stress for her also, and the way she was physically handled did not help the situation much at all, causing her more stress and pain. I can't list everything that I found out about this, but click on the link provided, this is an interesting article. I really couldn't find anything about pain itself causing a heart attack, but stress can definitely, and if she was in a lot of pain, she was under a lot of stress. Also, smaller clots may cause permanent damage to the heart and lungs. Could one of these clots have gotten to her heart? Sometimes big clots can cause smaller clots. I listed an article about this also. |
