What reason besides sleep apnea could be causing severe sleepiness?

My CPAP is not making the severe sleepiness go away. I get so sleepy I trip over things and am like being drunk. Yes-the sleep apnea was severe.

ask your homecare company to put you on a auto-titrating cpap machine for 2-3 weeks, it will record your optimal cpap pressure and let you know how your mask is fitting and your leak factor, perhaps you need to use a heated humidifer if you are not already, nd maybe you need to try a different interface like a full face mask or nasal pillows. your pressure may not be accurate, you may have restless leg syndrome, although your PSG should have picked this up.
My best guess is you have poor sleep hygiene, you should go to bed the same time 7 days a week, exercise daily, proper diet, and use the bedroom only for sleep and intimacy- no reading or tv, computer in bed. Stress in your life can also leed to poor sleep, bruxism or grinding of teeth, an improperly warm sleep environment, poor mattress, sleeping with disruption , IE dog, sleep partner, children can all result in poor sleep.
Hope this helps.

lack of iron in your diet

Hormone inbalences of any kind can cause this. A friend of mine has a hypothyroidism and when her meds are off she could sleep for days if she didn't have to get up.

If the sleep apnea is rated severe that is your best answer. Second guess is chronic fatigue syndrome which many times is caused by insufficient hormone balance or poor trygliceride levels - which could be a thyroid problem. Have you had a blood test lately? If not, get those two things checked.

It could be many other issues, from restless limbs syndrome which is interrupting your sleep to delayed sleep phase syndrome where you are really not getting quality sleep until the early morning, thus tired when you get up before your body is ready to. There could also be issues with your absorption of oxygen, or you could have narcolepsy. A CPAP is great for alleviating apneatic episodes throughout the night, but these are not the only things that could be keeping you from getting quality sleep at night or from feeling sleepy during the day.

This is truly not a question that anyone can answer or diagnose with a few questions, however. I highly reccommend that you call your sleep specialist on Monday to discuss this. If you have not been seeing a doctor trained in sleep disorders, and your primary care physician has prescribed the CPAP, you really should see a specialist. There is no way of truly knowing everything that is going on during your sleep without a comprehensive sleep study in a lab.

PS. It could be as simple as the titration level on your machine not being set correctly. Again, something that only your specialist can truly help you with.

You should be well rested after a night on your cpap You need to ask the prescribing doctor to readjust your readings(pressures) on your machine because what you are getting is not working

The hot flashes.

have you ever considered seeing a neurologist, could be something going on with your brain
