Severe fatigue during the day?

Hello,

I am a 24 year old female and have been having problems with daytime fatigue for 6 years. I'm talking about exhaustion so bad that it hurts me to wake up in the morning. Exhaustion so bad that my eyes pulsate at my desk at work to stay open and my eyes blink shut involuntarily.

I had a sleep study; they found I woke up a lot in my sleep and did not get a lot of deep sleep. I tried a CPAP to no avail and Requip for restless legs to no avail. I have had tubes of blood drawn; my iron is fine, my thyroid is fine.

All I know is that I am TIRED. The strange thing is, I feel a lot better at night.

Does this sound like narcolepsy? What can I do?

You need to go back to your doc and get this figured out. I had the same problem last year and it wasn't sleep apnea or narcolepsy. It most likely isn't narcolepsy because narcolepsy is when you fall asleep randomly and probably don't know it.
What I had was stress. I went to bed so tired that I didn't realize it took me over 2 hours to fall asleep and when I did fall asleep I woke up about every hour until the alarm went off and proceeded throughout the day in a zombie-like haze ready to fall asleep at the drop of a hat. My doc gave me Lunesta----worked okay, but I didn't like the side effects so I stopped. Try taking a low-dose (3mg) of melatonin about 30 minutes before your normal bedtime. Melatonin is what your body produces naturally to sleep, but you may experience night sweats. I only had to use it for a couple of weeks before my sleep got better and I could stop. If that doesn't work, talk to your doc about some of the sleep aids available now, there are a few on the market now that are not habit forming.
And the advice I'm sure you've heard already: don't read in bed, avoid caffeine after 5 pm (to include sugars), keep your bedroom cool and dark. If your brain doesn't shut off, then keep a notepad and pen by the bed and write down anything you think of as you try to fall asleep, that way you won't worry about forgetting it! Good luck and sweet dreams.

Maybe you should have your thyroid checked?

It does sound sleep disturbance.

Other than that, how does your blood sugar run?
