I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in 2001...?

I had surgery to remove my tonsils and uvula three weeks ago to make more room for airflow. Prior to the surgery I was wearing a CPAP for six years. I am still experiencing discomfort and there are a couple of areas that haven't healed yet. Question: should it take three weeks for surgery to heal?

three weeks is not a long time to heal, my friend.

it should have healed by now. Maybe there is some infection please check your doctor.

Call your doctor to make sure but I think that it can take 6 to 8 weeks or longer to be completely healed from that surgery. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor, though.

It could take more than 3 weeks - it all depends on what they did and how fast your body heals. The older you are the longer it takes for you body to replenish the cells in healing

You just had a piece of your body removed, so it's not unreasonable to need over 3 weeks to heal. But if it's worrying you, schedule a check-up.

Good luck!

Sleep apnea can be of 2 types. Obstructive Sleep Apnea leads to recurrent hypoxemia with awakening while Central Sleep Apnea involves problems in the breathing centers in the brain.

Chief symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring, excessive sleeping in the daytime (hypersomnolence) and restless sleep. Besides these, it is also associated with choking or gasping during sleep, unrefreshing sleep, , poor judgment etc.

The aim of any treatment is to keep the airway patent and avert any pauses in the breathing. Numerous methods are used such as avoidance of alcohol and CNS depressants near bedtime, weight reduction and sleep posture modification.

Star,

First of all this length of time is not long enough for that surgery to heal on an adult! The only age group that would of healed that soon would of been an very young child or baby! Sorry! Even a teen ager would take 6 to 7 weeks to fully heal!

I assume that you only have obstructive sleep apnea! and this will take care of it. You are lucky if that is so! I myself have the other form where I simply just stop breathing! Its called central something or a nother and I will have to use the CPAP thing forever! But it is a wonderful machine for me!

Gargle with warm salt water often and check your temperature every now and then (before gargling) to make sure that you do not have any infection! Just have patience and you will heal!

Good luck, sounds like everything is just as would be expected!

If you do run fever give your doctor a call and he can call you in a prescription!

Have a good day,

APS
