Anyone know what type of illness I have? |
Hi. I am trying to figure what kind of illness that I am having and the doctors doesn't seem to help. I've done many test and haven't gotten to the point of what it is. So far the symptoms I am having is really low energy and not able to do things that I normally do, and always sleeping more than 8 hours sometimes it can be 13 hours straight. When I spoke to my doctors they thought I had problems with my thyroid and when I took the test it proved negative. Then I saw a sleep specialist and did 2 type of test a multiple latency test and a test where u have to sleep overnight all they found was sleep apnea one is obtrusive and the other is central and also periodic limb movement disorder. I also had to do the cpap test and that didnt help either. Nonetheless even with the medication they gave hasn't worked...Someone tell me if they know what type of illness I have. Then I thought I had the chornica fatique syndrome or the Epstein-Barr virus , but I am unsure of it. What should I do? I also did an Iron level test, and found that I am not anemic, but rather have too much Iron in my blood so far I've seen a total of 3 doctors. Also did a blood test for my blood sugar and saw that I was still in the safe zone and am not diabetic. Get your liver checked. The doctor can do a cbc and see if your liver enzymes are elevated. However, 40% of the people with hepatitis C have liver enzymes in the normal range, so you should have a hepatitis panel done. The first complaint people have with hepatitis C is they are fatigued. Next comes joint pain, headaches, etc. Best wishes, hope the doctors figure out what it is. Maybe get a second or third opinion. Just because your doctor thinks one thing or didn't find anything doesn't' mean he/she is right. It never hurts to get another view/opinion. Maybe they'd consider something your doctor isn't. They don't call it practicing medicine for nothing. Also maybe your anemic? Are you thirsty all the time, drink a lot of water? Might be diabetes. I'd frankly go see another Dr. Try an Internest. Adjust your sleep schedule and try to do mild exercise. The more you sleep, the more you want to sleep. If you're not having any other synptoms, I'm afraid your doctors are probably right. A sleep disorder alone doesn't really show anything except, well, a sleep disorder, sorry. Get a third opinion. Take your files with you and demand the doctor look at them. There's a few options that haven't been mentioned in your tests. The first and most common is anemia. High level iron supplements could counter this. Another is depression. However, being diagnosed with sleep apnea is probably the largest concern if not the entire reason for your problem. Not only does sleep apnea often interrupt REM sleep (and in doing so, deprive you of the rest your body truly needs), but it can also be fatal if not monitored. If I were you, I'd abandon looking for a bizzarre disease that hasn't been found and work on dealing with the ones that have. Sleep apnea can cause what you are saying. Even though you are asleep, you are not breathing properly and would more properly be characterized as unconcious. You therefore always feel tired because you are not getting rest. Avoid alcohol because this just makes things worse. Try to get a lot of exercise and eat properly. Doctors tend to want to prescribe medication for every woe known to man. I would certainly not take medication that is not working. I would only resort to medication if the exercise and diet modifications do not work. Okay, first of all too much iron can make you fatigued too. It is also bad for your heart. Second, if you have sleep apnea, get a crap machine to open your airway at night. You will be amazed at how much more energy you have. My friends energy level went from a walking zombie to being able to work overtime with no problem. If you ignore your sleep apnea, you will get a heart attack early in life. Since both too much iron and sleep apnea are bad for the heart, you should get an excercise stress test done to check your heart. Go to a internist who is a specialist at figuring out things that normal doctors can't. I wish I could get answer to one question- I agree that you don't need to go further right now than the sleep apnea to find out why you are tired. Sleep apnea keeps you from getting the proper type of sleep your body needs to function, and you will be tired. I would suggest that you explore the possibility that you are depressed. Depression is a crippling condition that includes your symptoms along with a good dose of denial. If you have any doubts, why not see a therapist and rule it out. Good luck. My father had guillian bere syndrome, a muscle debilitating virual disease. Ask about it...not sure of all symptoms, but he eventually went for physical therapy and had hospital treatment. Good Luck YOU SAID "latency test and a test where u have to sleep overnight all they found was sleep apnea one is obtrusive and the other is central and also periodic limb movement disorder. I also had to do the cpap test and that didnt help either" YOU HAVE A SLEEP PROBLEM with that DX!!!! you may need a CPAP OR VPAP-----See A Sleep Doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!--------- good luck |
