I need to reask this question as it was misread by 1?

I am on 8 H2O cpap-just started
Thats a light pressure
I have obstructive apnea and am 60 lbs overweight
Can I read anything into my chances of coming off cpap with weight loss...... because my pressure Rx is THAT low????

Sleep apnea, unless it is central, is directly related to soft tissue obstruction. By losing weight you may indeed help overcome your periods of sleep apnea......but you may not. Their are some surgical procedures that may benefit you, however you should lose the weight first(reaping the vast multitude of physical advantages it will bring) and then ask you primary care provider about such operations and/or another sleep study. I am an R.R.T.

I am a sleep apnoea nurse . Read your cpap study and see whether you have mild, moderate or severe . The cpap pressure of 8 cm is low BUT you could still be a moderate or severe but with a small neck circumference , therfore only needing 8 cm . Yes - wt loss can reduce your need for sleep apnoea but I have to be pessimistic and say I have only seen it once in three years . But don't be put off - wt loss benefits every organ - whether it be your heart , liver , gall bladder - everything ! Who knows - you just might be number 2 !
