Sleep Apnea, do you have it?

I have sleep apnea and just got a CPAP machine. Anyone else have one? I was just wondering what your machine is set for (mine is 13). I am going to use it tonight for the first time and wondered how it has worked for others. And how long did it take to get used to it. I have the nasal one, not the nose mask. What do you have?

i have it also.. i love my machine.. i dont even take a nap without it.. the reason it works is cause it make the air go into your lung and keeps you from not breathing.. i would stop breathing 8 times a hour.. the cpap can save your life. it will reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.. my dr told me 40%.. and to me thats a lot and worth it. it only took me a couple days to get use to mine. but everyone is different.. good luck

I also have sleep apnea. But I don't use a CPAP machine.
I use Breathe Right nasal strips. They've always worked
well-enough for me.

My girlfriend's mother had JUST got a CPAP machine for her apnea. She uses the sleeping mask at night, although I'm not sure of the setting. From what I've heard, she slept like a log the first night back at home with the CPAP machine. She woke up after six hours of sleep and felt refreshed. Good luck!

Your nose is going to have to get used to all that air. You may want to ask for something for your nose tommorrow. It will be dry inside and you will want to scratch it like crazy. I think my machine was set at 11. I could not get used to the machine. I am a hyper active sleeper with a lot of OCD and could not handle anything on my face. I did benefit from the chin strap. Strange as that is. I sleep now with my teeth clenched more than I ever did and I have stopped snoring, most nights. I was told to keep trying and if the nose pice did not work there are a lot of other options to try. You need the machine so keep trying. Just be prepared to need something for your nose so you don't look like you are picking it all day.

I do not have sleep apnea but I work for Respironics, the company who most likely made your system, and from the people that i talked to, if your system is properly set up you will be good within a week. If you have problems dont hesitate to try different masks, there are 3 main types and it may take some time to find the one that works best for you. Many people love their machines hopefully you will too.
