CPAP Machines only for overweight/obese people?

I found out 3 guys I work with use CPAP machines. I never heard of these things before. All 3 of the guys look like Tony Soprano. Let's just say they're not joggers or dieters. Is there a correlation to these machines and weight? Wouldn't weight loss be a better solution?

I ask because my dad says he needs one now, and I think he just needs to be more active and lose weight.

sleep apnea is what's in your nasal & throat!!! weight affects your body raising your chest, but it's what blocking your airway!!! i know Lots of slim, fit people on CPAP

sleep apnea affects people in all weight categories, so no, weight is not a big factor in the problem.

no they are not ~ Sometimes it is due to a large neck size, there are all kinds of reasons ~ NOT necessarily due to weight.

Sleep Apnea does effect people of all sizes, but if you are overweight or obese, you are at a higher risk of having it.

No they are not for overweight people. Sleep apnea is a serious problem and anyone can have it. Even kids have it sometimes. Yes overweight people may be more prone to sleep apnea but this is not why they have it. It is serious. Look up sleep apnea on the web to find out more about it. The late Reggie White had sleep apnea and was a famous Green Bay Packer player. He was big but not overweight.

I've had one for 5 years, I'm a little overweight but my problem started when I was young and quite skinny. It has something to do with my soft palate, it's just the way I developed. Weight loss could definitely help the situation for some people, but it may not completely get rid of the problem.

No, people of all ages and sizes may have "Sleep Apnea".
