CPAP machine help! PLEASE?

My dad just found out that his insurance doesn't cover the CPAP machine he desperately needs. I am looking at eBay and the CPAP auction site, although I don't know where to start. What pieces do I need for sure? What is the average the whole set-up goes for? Someone please help!

I bought a CPAP machine for $69.99 from Apria health care products. You will have to buy the mask and the hose separately. They are a bit expensive. Is he on the machine for sleep apnea? How old is he and what the hell kind of insurance does he have, so everyone on here that reads this will know NOT to buy that insurance! Sorry, My Mistake! It was a nebulizer. My cpap is leased and paid for by medicare.

Depending on make and model, the whole system will run anywhere from $450 to $2,000 but, as always, you get what you pay for.

Below are manufactures of CPAPs. You can google the makes and models for pricing that will be available from durable medical equipment providers that sell them. Some links for such companies are listed at the bottom.

Resmed , Respironics and DeVilbiss are probably the biggest names in the CPAP business.

You will need, of course, the CPAP machine, the CPAP tubing, an air filter (optional), the CPAP nasal mask or nasal pillows. You will need to know how many centimeters of water pressure you will have to set the machine at...and you will need to know how to set the machine.

I am not sure what the entire set up goes for....I am shocked that your Dad's insurance doesn't cover it. Would they rather have to pay for heart failure...? Do you think that the doctors office would be willing to call the insurance company...Wow...I just cannot believe ... I mean it is not like it is an optional piece of equipment....As a Respiratory Therapist, I find this to be disturbing and very unacceptable. If he does not get the CPAP machine, he will have additional problems which will result in the insurance company having to pay out much more. I hope that your Dad's doctor office will call the insurance company and explain it to them so that they can understand it....maybe in a 2 year olds language.

I work at a CPAP/Sleep study center. PLEASE do not purhase off ebay. You are not guaranteed the unit will be in good working condition or if it came from a smokers home, or if the unit is still made, making it difficult to order supplies. Surprisingly enough, most insurances do not cover DME, Durable Medical Equipment such as the CPAP. Depending on if he needs a regular CPAP, an automatic or a bi-pap, the prices vary by tht and the manufacturer. When you purchase a new machine from our place for instance it comes with the 6 foot hose as well as a filter. If a heated humidifier is called for we need an Rx for that as well. The masks also cost, depending on what type he needs. Most sleep labs, where he tested at will give him the mask. If they didn't they may still have it boxed with his name on it. If you'd like to email me, I'd be more than happy to help you out. michelegrobison@yahoo.com. I'd also be more than happy to give you our web address to check out the prices.
This can be a pricey piece of equipment but very well worth it. I recently started using one and couldn't be happier.
