Has anyone being on crutches ?

has anyone being on crutches, how long did you have to be on crutches did you have to use them for six months, how do you clean if you have a cast on your leg or you decide to smell for six months. plese describe your experience with crutches, sprain break?

OH BOY! Yes, I have been and they are no fun and casts are icky and uncomfortable. I sponge bathed and it does not get you as clean as you want to be, but at least it keeps you from smelling bad :D . Being on crutches is very overwhelming and YOU DO SWEAT A LOT. I live in the desert and I had my surgery in the summer, so you see I had the need to sponge bathe A LOT :D

I don't know your situation, but I got tired of the sponge baths and fortunately my folks were taking care of me, and my mother put a chair in the bath tub and help me work my way onto the chair, we wrapped plastic and duct tape around the bags and orthopedic surgeons sometimes have cast bags that you can order, it's better than taping bags on your leg ;)
I wish you the best of luck. I feel your pain and discomfort. YIKES!! :S

I should ad, that i had to have sugery I sprained my ankle quite badly and had to have the ligaments restructured. It was quite painful for about 3-4 days and the rest was just aggrevating because of having to be on crutches and being so limited to what I could do. If I wanted something bad enough like a can of soda, I would get a plastic bag with handles and put the soda in that :D I am too independent, I like to do things for myself. :)

Oh Yeah and when they took the cast off, it was gross, I had really long black hair on my leg :D and my skin was peeling really bad, I had to put LOTS of lotion on it to get it to heal. Be careful of blisters too especially on your feet.

LOL !! Well, for your own sake, I hope you never do need them. :) My sympathy to you if you do:D Report It

hello allen, the answer to your your question about being on crutches, yes i have, i was in a cast off and on for 5 years, as for taking a bath it depends on the far the cast goes up your leg. it is easy to take a bath or even a showerit does take some preperation to do so but once you have done it for a few times it will get easier. my cast was about 5 to 6 inches above my knee. this is going to sound funny but here goes get a garbage bag and put it over the entire cast and use duct tape or masking tape to close off the top of the cast. thats to keep the water from entering the cast at the top, if you r taking a bath u put your leg on top of the edge of the tub and if your tub has a flat spot on both sides then u can use a piece of 2x1 to go across so your leg can sit on it while u take a bath but still have the bag on it so doesn't get wet. hope this helps if u need any other info about being on crutches give me a shout. have been there and figure alot of diffent way to get around the obstavles while trying to recover hope this helps u good luck.
