Crutches with knee injury? |
A few months ago I twisted my knee pretty badly in gym class. Ever since then, it twists really easily. Yesterday during lunch I stepped on it the wrong way and my knee totally gave out. It started swelling up and there was some obvious inflammation. I went to my doctor and he told me just to receive physical therapy for the next few weeks. Since yesterday, I've been relaxing my knee as much as I can. It's in an ace bandage and I've kept it elevated. Now, today it's swollen and a bit inflamed still, and actually hurts a bit worse. Yesterday, i was able to walk on it slightly, and now its as if my knee got injured even further. It hurts terribly to put weight on it and I can't bend it straighter than a 45 degree angle. My mother says it's a good idea to be moving around on it, by walking and stretching it every few hours. But I'm physically unable to. With most injuries the rules are pretty simple - if an activity is causing pain, stop doing the activity until you can do it without pain. If walking makes the knee swell and hurt, you are not going to heal if you keep walking on it. Crutches seem like they are necessary if you want the knee to heal. Well if you can't walk then yes! Call up some friends/ neighbors to see if they have an old pair, then go back to the doctors i would call the doctor and tell him/ her whats going on and how it feels, also if its swollen i think they can stick a needle and drain the liquid out of it. also if ur going to therapy for it then they are suppose to tell u what to do as well. hope i helped i have a problem on the foot area. i have had 12 x-rays and 2 MRI's. If it swells then you should deffinetlly use crutches. you can use crutches to help around the house and school. But your mom is right about exercise. it wont get better without exercise... i had to figure that out within my 6 month still going on injury. if you need the money go to the job with the crutches. but don't let the kids play with them or they might need crutchs!!!!!!!! Yes you should if its swelling. Im on cruthces now for a sprained ankle and possibly torn ligaments (Also swelling and extreme pain). Crutches help a LOT at school and at home just prop it up and rest. Also, go to the doctor |
