Would using my crutches be a good idea?

I sprained my knee Saturday skiing. It popped but it didn't really hurt that badly so I decided to keep skiing. after I was all done for the day my knee hurt so bad, it was hard to bend it up, and I feel a slight pain it when I would walk. by the end of the night(2 am) my knee hurt so bad. It was extremly painful to straighten and walk on it and I was beginning to feel sick, and walking on it was making me tired. Yesterday I went to a 24 hour urgent care place. and they told me that I may have torn something and refered me to an orthopedic doctor. They also gave me crutches and the crutches seemed to help a little. The problem is today I have a little more motion in my leg but It is still tiring standing with my knee bent all day, and I can walk but I have been limping and the limping seemed to get worse and so did the pain as the day went on. It feels better when I rest it and when I don't put any weight on it, but crutches make me so tired and I have to ride the bus. I can walk/

kind of run but it hurts. My right leg also feels a bit weaker than my other leg. I have also always wanted to try crutches but now that I have the opportounity to I don't want to because they make me so tired and they hurt, plus I have to ride the bus. I'm thinking if I take a day off of my knee than It might heal faster. what do you think. It also hurts to bend/kneel on my knee and if I rub the left side of my knee than it is pretty tender and it feels kind of loose/painful.I walk with a limp, and when I stand up it is pretty painful/stiff. I hurt it doing a split but I'm not really that flexible. It feels like when I sprained my left knee and I had to walk on my tip toes saturday/sunday and the time that I sprained my left knee. when this happened I grabbed my knee and I was crying(I'm 14 btw)I'm concerned though about this because I didn't use the crutches today so what would people think. My friend Stephanie already said she would help me if I decided to use

I know you asked this a day ago, but to answer again, yes you should use them until the knee heals. Yes crutches stink like crazy, but they help you get better. I tried a little bit of limping today instead of being on my crutches, because they were REALLY tiring. It hurt bad and now it hurts BAD so I am back on those dumb crutches. Here are some tips for getting through school with crutches:

- Ask one of your close friends to help you with your books, lunch, backpack, anything thar you need your hands for! I am sure they will be as willing to help as my friends were today.

- Throughout the day, take a 2 minute break to lean against your locker or a wall or anything else sturdywithout the crutches. It feels good to be off them and to relax your arms and good leg. Then take a deep breath and get back on the crutches.

- I really dont know how to get up stairs on crutches, my friends help me on those parts so I dont actually do anything. If you cannot get up by yourself ask someone passing by(if their nice) if they could help you up. Im sure they would be more than willing too.

- While you're sitting at your desk, take both crutches and lean them against one side of the desk. Or, try to find a seat by a wall or filing cabinet and ask if you can lean them up against there. When class is over, try to walk to the curtches but hop a little if it hurts to step on it. (Lol I have to hop)

- Yes, today I experienced how hard it is to be in school with crutches. I'm not clumsy or anything but sometimes I slip on them a little and I end up yelling "whoah" or something. It's not easy and I had to take several breaks because crutches are so tiring. After I traveled about 50 feet or so I would stop and take a breath. (I am not out of shape but you know how exhausting crutches are)

I hope you feel better!!!

Owwwwww. Sorry bout that.

Until your leg is healed, there is nothing wrong with using the crutches. It takes some of the workload off of the injured leg. Yes, it is hard to use crutches all day and it does wear you out but this is better than making your leg worse. Do go see an orthopedist and find out exactly what is wrong. It it is something that needs fixed, get it done. You don't want to have problems all the rest of your life with this leg.

using your crutches would be a good idea, if you don't use them your leg will continue hurting if you don't use your crutches the more you use them the more your leg will heal, but then you'd have to get your back to having weight put on it

Use the crutches. You'll get used to them. The important thing here is that your knee heals properly and that you are not having a great deal of pain.
