What is the law for insurance coverage for diabetic supplies.?

What is the law for insurance coverage for diabetic supplies.?

Various states require insurance companies doing business within their state to cover certain diabetic supplies, such as at least one meter and test strips, and other items. Check www.mendosa.com His site has lots of good information. I saw that item just this morning! Also contact your local or state health department office about insurance coverage for more info.

There is no law that says insurance must cover diabetic supplies. There really isn't many laws saying that anything particular medications must be covered. Medicare part D is that probably one of the only insurance plans that actually has rules about what prescriptions must be covered. Most insurances will cover diabetic supplies though, the trick is figuring out how to get them paid for. Many will allow a pharmacy to submit a prescription and you're responsible for the copay. Other's will have the patient submit the claim to the major medical insurance. Calling your insurance is the best bet to figure it all out.

medicare covers the cost of diabetic supplies only if a physician writes a prescription he cannot call it in. if you go through an independent agency they also need a dr script.
