Did I have a Panick Attack?

Last night I thought I was going to die. I had a bit of weed and I smoked it before I went bed like I do on the odd occasion! But last night after smoking it I started to get a bit worried, I don't know why but I just had things on my mind and things that are happening in my life now and I just got terrified for some reason and my heart started to beat really fast, I have smoked week before and nothing like this has ever happend to me in my life. I went into the bathroom and it just got worse, I was on the floor trying to get my breath, my heart was like a really fast base line on some kind of techno tune, I was trying to get my breath and I went all dizzy and I was all over the place. I don't know what was happening. I actually called an ambulance and went to the hospital. After I felt ok, but at the time I was so worried. Do you think this is some kind of panic attack and should I go and talk to my GP about it?

the hospital was pretty usless, they didnt really say anything apart from weed can do that!

I must admit, the same thing happened to me years ago. I was not a regular smoker (I was at a party) and thought I would try it (the last time was in my teens). Like you I had some problems at the time and I don't think I was in the right frame of mind. I thought it might chill me out but it did the complete opposite! I have become completely paranoid about smoking it since, but it does sound as though it probably caused a panic attack. As suggested by someone, I always carry a brown paper bag with me as it does help if you breath in and out into it deeply because it gets oxygen to the brain (my doctor told me this). Hopefully, it won't happen to you again and it was a one off. I now prefer a stiff drink or two to chill out! Good luck.

You were paranoid.
when you try to fight it you'll make it worse.
weed makes you very paranoid and raises your heart rate.
if you worry about it to much you'll have a panic attack and you'll think your about to die.
but you wont. Report It

face your fears. try it again this time expect it.
teach yourself to stay calm and relaxed.
Next time enjoy it, and set the right environment and surroundings.
you should also probably do it with fun people so you can keep your mind off your problems, worries, or discomforts. Report It

Outlook not so good

panick attack

Sounds like one - be careful! I used to suffer with them and had to learn to control my breathing. Sounds silly but try to have a little paper bag to hand all the time. If you suffer again, put it over your mouth and breath in and out until your breathing regulates. Weed doesn't help though so try not too smoke.

what did the docs at the hospital say?

yup ... panic attack ...
(I'm talking from experience)

Maybe get a prozac.

I think maybe someone either laced the joint with something or you may have low sugar THC effects the suger and it may have dropped too low I would smoke anymore I would tell someone because You may need to have something checked like blood samples for anything that would make you have a reaction when most people dont. Panic attacks usually a brought on in a time of panic. Like an arguement or someone hurt or in trouble anything. You cant breathe fell like your gonna pass out ect. You may have triggered one though if you had a reaction first.

It's anxiety and it's commonly known as a panic attack. If you have recurring symptoms (especially if you're not smoking weed when you get them) you might want to go to your GP and tell them all about it (they won't 'grass' you up, don't worry I've taken worse and told my GP). As far as the actual effects are concerned, it's really just distressing and not a danger to you. If you're a driver, you would possibly be in danger if you were in transit, but just pull over at the nearest opportunity and you'll be fine once the attack passes.

Symptoms (if it gets bad):
Pins and needles (fingers, face and arms/legs),
Fast (but regular) heart-rate,
Tight chest,
Possibly pain in chest, arms, legs as your muscles start to cramp,
Fear,
Blurred Vision.
Muscle convultions.
Unconciousness.

I suffered from panic attacks after one night when I smoked weed and took billy, and I know they're really upsetting. I thought I was dying, it's really convincing. For piece of mind you could get a full checkup, but I'm sure it's just anxiety from your description.

yes I would say this is a panic attack.smoking weed will not help.what you need is a good friend `who you can talk over your troubles. If you are feeling depressed go to your G P.have a nice day.

To be honest it could have been that you were just a bit paranoid which can be caused by smoking weed. it can also increase your heart rate etc. it was probably a panic attack brought on by the wee. you started to hyperventilate and probably felt like you were having a heart attack. if it did happen again i would use a paper bag to breathe through. it really works because it controls your breath you are leaving in and out the same amount of air. I wouldn't go to the doctor unless it started to happen more often. just relax as they can be brought on by stress.

Even if you sometimes smoke weed and this hasn't happened before to you, it could be side effects from it. Weed can cause panic attack like symptoms and if not careful can develop into a severe form of psychosis. Have you ever had this feeling while off the weed...?If so, it may be a panic attack.
Go to you're GP anyway...i'm not one to make a diagnosis.
Good Luck : )

you got some weed-smoking-paranoia. it happened to me too, once i blacked out at a concert and i had a mini-panic attack at the cinema, i wanted to cough but i couldn`t, also i felt i was suffocating. just chill in your mind, drink something and try to focus on something else rather than you freaking out.

This could have happened with or with out the weed, My sister suffers bad with panic attacks, You should have a paper bag with you at all times and when you feel it coming on clasp the bag around your mouth and breath in and out deeply and slowly, its the only way to catch your breath, when you have your breath back take it easy for awhile just sit down and drink water and dont get up till you feel ready or you will start it off again

Hope this helps, good luck
