Skin problems after hospitalization?.? |
My husband has been in the hospital for about a month. He cannot walk and cannot roll over without help. We have tried to put pillows behind him to prevent bed sores but there is an area on the buttocks where the skin is very dark. Almost like a bruise. What to do? He cannot lay on his left side at all and it is painful to lay on the right side it could nacrotic from lack of circulation. do not massage boney prominences. but you can massage a buttock but not too hard. he needs to face a different direction every two hours and stay off the area until healed. He needs a good diet in protein and a multivitamin supplement to help with healing. Good luck Every two hours he must be turned. On his left side, back side then back side. Press the bruise. Does the area blanch (get white)? If not, you have a stage 1 pressure ulcer. You must get him off of his buttocks otherwise it will blister, the skin will slough off and the ulcer will deepen into the muscle. |
