How long does it take to successfully get off of klonopin 2 mg.?

my phycho doctor tried to do it in 2 days when i was in a mental hospital and i was twitching like i had tourettes for like weeks and i thought it was the seroquel she gave me for sleeping. whats wrong with these doctors? ive been on klonopin for about 6 years every day 2 mg b4 bed.

Klonopin is a benzodiazepine and abrupt withdrawal can cause seizures and psychosis which can be life threatening. If a doctor took you off in 2 days he is dangerous and I strongly recommend that you find a new doctor. It could take many months even a year or more of gradually cutting the dosage down to finally get off especially since you have been taking it for years. Klonopin is very potent as you have found out. Why don't you join a support group for benzodiazepine withdrawal like this one http://www.non-benzodiazepines.org.uk

I can also recommend that you read this resource http://www.bcnc.org.uk

You are very welcome. Report It

Do a google search and look it up, there's a sight that gives real life experience on what it's like. I wish I knew what the site was... sorry.

Your doctor is an idiot to put it nicely.

I was on klonopyn for decades for a sleep/seizure disorder and had no idea of what could happen if I was taken off it.

IT'S HELL. I can totally relate to how you felt about the twitching. I thought it would never stop. It took like 2 months. Even my voice changed.

You have to do it very gradually and it takes a long time.

Good luck. Get a different doctor.

You definitely need a second opinion from a Dr. I know it took me going down .5 mgs every 3 weeks until I was off but everyone is different and that is just what MY Dr. suggested. Please do see another Dr. so you can be weaned down properly. Good luck ~
