Sciatica hurt leg?

I've had leg pain and sometimes back, hip and pelvic pain for the past 2 weeks. I went to the hospital last night and the Dr did xrays he said everything looks good and it looked like it was most likely sciatica, he only did xrays of my back. My questions is with sciatica or a pulled muscle in the back is it common for the leg to hurt more than the back ? Most of the pain is in my leg sometimes more so in the calf and knee area I am in the sitting position pretty much all day which I read makes this 5 times worse. The only time I really feel the pain in my back is when I am tossing and turning whiel sleeping and getting in and out of bed.

It is very common for sciatica pain to be experienced in the legs and or arms.

Like most of sciatica patients you will probably respond well to non-surgical forms of treatment. Below are some of the non-surgical treatments your doctor may include in your treatment plan.

Your doctor may prescribe medications. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics help reduce swelling while relieving pain. NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen, and prescription-strength drugs. You may also be prescribed muscle relaxants or other stronger pain medications. Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) place corticosteroid medicine near spinal nerve roots. Corticosteroid injections can reduce nerve inflammation and pain for months or longer, but ESIs are not effective for all patients.

You can also explore physician therapy which can include passive treatments such as cold or heat, deep tissue massage, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound. These treatments help prepare you for therapeutic exercise鈥攖he active part of physical therapy.

Another option is going to a chiropractor. Chiropractors may use cold therapies, ultrasound, TENS, and spinal manipulation (adjustments) to help address the problem. You can find some more detaild information on your symptoms and treatments at http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarti...

When I had a sciatica problem a few years ago, the chiropractor helped a lot.

try soaking your entire body in epsom salt water, it helps with the pain in your entire body, or just soak in a tub of hot water,
or take tylenol arthritis for the cramps and pain, it helps mine

If the X-rays look okay, then the pain may be sciatica. Is is very common for the legs to hurt much more than the back when you have that condition because the discs of the spine irritate the nerves that run down the legs. Since you do have some back pain it is possible that this could be the case. The only way to find out what's going on it to go to your regular doctor and request a test or two. Specifically describe your symptoms and ask for a lumbar MRI and possibly an X-ray or two of the areas of your legs that hurt the most to rule out injury. Your doctor can take it from there. In the mean time, if you can, take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen, and sometimes a hot bath helps.
