Here is a site that had some good links on it. It will explain your problem better than I can in this small box. Sometimes your problem can be fixed with physical therapy type procedures, wear the night guards, babying the area by taking small bites of food, no gum chewing, no chewy type foods and using very warm moist towels on your jaw joints. Orthodontics and/or jaw surgery may possibly be needed.
You should take anti inflammatory drugs such as Aleve, Advil, or Motrin for several days. It sounds like the ball within your socket joint (TMJ) has been displaced and/or the muscles of your face are being overstressed. I'm not sure what type of appliance you were given. There are different types being made. The NTI is a new approach and you can look it up at www.nti-nss.com
I don't think it is cancer. It just sounds like your teeth are not in proper allignment or you are overworking them with grinding/clenching. Over time this has created a stressed out muscle/joint relationship.

i dont think there will be much wrong, when did it happen was it after a filling or something when u had anasthetic? its probably just a muscle inflammation, an anti-inflammatory drug should help...its a slow process tho

It is probably a muscle spasm. It sure does not sound like any type of cancer. You can try putting a warm compress on the side that is locked, to loosen the muscles.

You need a 2nd opinion. Six months is WAY too long to be dealing with that.
