What would you do in my situation?i got my period when i was 9 yrs old & it has always been really bad.? |
I cant move 4 weeks, w/o birth control my period lasts on average 14-21 days heavy. If i even try to get out of bed while on my period i pass out within a half hour of being up and out of bed or i throw up, im sick off and on and it has always been a huge burden on my life. My mom would barely ever take me to the gyno b/c she either just didnt care or she was 2 messed up on drugs or alcohol to take me...and when she did take me the doctor wouldnt listen to me and just would say "o thats ok u just have bad periods" i guess bein so young i couldnt describe the serious pain i was in. Well now im 19 years old, i live outside my home and i took things in my own hands by goin to the gyno & he said that it sounds like endometriosis & it seems like its had a very long time of growing to do. But now the hospital wont take my insurance(aetna)for the surgery & i cant wait any longer. Its gotten to the point where it hurts everyday and i hav no life b/c of it. I cant afford the surgery, now what? I have been on the pill since i was 13 years old, and yes i need the surgery, he needs to remove the scar tissue right away, endo keeps growing. I need advice from someone who has endo , or is a professional, thanks. Did you ask the hospital why they will not take your insurance? Aetna is a well know company. I would contact the billing department and have them give you their reasoning for not taking your insurance. If you don't like what you hear, go to a supervisor and if you still don't get anywhere, go to that persons supervisor. Do you really need the surgery? Look into that as much as you can. great answer Regina, just what l was going to say !! i'm so sorry for you i really am, but i dont really have any advice except maybe you could ask family members for money ? even try asking your mom, you could play the guilt card on her easily. it may not work but that is the only advice i could think of. Is there another health center nearby? It sounds like your dr. is wanting to do a lap to check you for endo-with your symptoms I think that is a very good idea. I had a very similiar problem. I work for a hospital and I finally told my regular ogbyn that I wanted to schedule surgery-he agreed and I set up the time/date. I then got a call from his office stating that my dr. did not have rights at the hospital I work for and so my insurance would only pay 70% to do it at the hospital that he has rights at. So, being cheap and knowing I could get my surgery covered 100% if I had it done at the hospital I work for, I cancelled my surgery with him and went to another obgyn that had rights at the hospital I needed to go to-which actually turned out better for me b/c this new dr had more knowledge in endo than my previous one. So, maybe that is the problem? If you don't mind, I would suggest, if you havn't, researching endo a lot. Most dr. 's do not know enough about it to give you long lasting relief. Many dr.'s laser the endo which will not do you a lot of good-it may provide you some relief but it will be short lived. You need a dr. who will excise the endo, someone who specializes in it. My best suggestion is to call your insurance company and ask them what hospital(s) in your area accept your insurance? Then you can check with your dr. to see if he has priviledges there. If your dr doesn't have rights at the hospital(s) you can go to and need to go to another dr., just try to find the best endo dr.'s in your area and when you call their office ask if they have rights at the hospital you need to go to-they should be able to tell you. I agree that you need surgery to see what is going on and to fix it but your very very best course of action is to find a dr. that specializes in endo, I'm not trying to imply that your doesn't. I just like to mention this b/c so many women go to dr.s that don't know awhole lot, have surgery where the dr. lasered off the endo and then 6 months later they are back in pain and their dr is telling them that endo couldn't be the problem. Anything less than excising the endo doesn't solve the problem so it will probably come back. And don't let any dr. tell you there is a cure-there isn't. Good luck-hope this helps! |
