New Dawn: Female BPD treatmeant UK.?

So i was looking on the net for BPD treatment. And found Cygnet Hospital Beckton. Its a word with 15 bed specialist service for women diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder treatment is based on DBT. It's not nhs. As counselling and meds have not worked my gp don't know what to do with me. And i think this place could help me. I've got a apptment tomorrow with me gp how do i go about asking him if the nhs will pay for a stay? i have been diagnosed with BPD.

It's not straightforward to get a referral to such places, but Cygnet Beckton's website is quite clear about the fact that their patients are largely NHS referrals, so there is a good chance. I think what you need to emphasise to your doctor is that you really do want to do the work, that you have been researching in order to find a suitable placement, that you are willing to go through the difficulties and challenges, and that you are aware that DBT is recognised as an effective treatment for BPD. Your GP will know that for most people diagnosed with BPD, it's just a revolving door of crises and self-harm and distress, and may well understand that, for the local NHS trust, spending more money now could save them a fortune in the long run.

You might need to be a bit canny - it depends on what your GP is like as to how responsive he is to requests. You will have some sense of him, so treat him in the way you think most likely to get the result you want. Some GPs like to think they've thought it all up for themselves, in which case you could sigh and say you've seen something that looked interesting, but you suppose there's just no chance of the NHS funding it........ and hope that he wants to prove how actively he wants to help you by seizing the challenge and making sure you get a place. Alternatively, if you have the sort of GP who likes to be told what you want, make it clear that this is it.

Just come straight out with it and ask him. Tell him that you've been researching and found something that could really help, and ask if the NHs will fund it.

i went to the retreat in york its a all womens unit which i found beter and also it is the only inpatient unit in the uk which does dbt ( theriapy for wemon only with bpd) as an inpatient i would recomed that instend honestly again though need nsh funding though.
