My dad has colon cancer?

my dad was diagnosed in august of 2004 at the age of 48 with colon cancer. it was considered terminal at the time, he is still living today. the cancer has spead to both of his lungs, his stomach, and either his kidney or liver (i forget). last summer he was in the hospital for 3 months (whole summer) getting fluids (that were red) drained from his lungs. doctors said that the large lung was clamping the small lung and making it hard for him to breathe. so he was put on oxygen..and getting this liquid drained from his lungs. after 3 months in the hospital not moving from the bed, he had a long road of recovery, but he did recover. then about 4 weeks ago he was adimtted into the hospital again, exact same thing as last summer, but they caught it quick enough and he was released last week. he's on oxygen, and just really slow with everything. when do you think the cancer will take his life? they say they don't know how to keep his lungs open, i just want some advice on what you think

Caroline,
My suggestion is for you to enjoy this time with your dad as much as you can as you never know when he will go....it sounds as tho he has had a ruff road of it and needs your love and attention as much as possible.. just be there for him and for you as one day you will look back on this time and want to have some wonderful memories. Good luck and be strong for him and you...HUGS

There's no way to tell. One thing that the medical community forget to take into account when diagnosing, is that it is the person's will to live that will extend or shorten their life. Help him develop a will to live and he will live longer. It is a proven fact among cancer patients.

like the other girl said
try spending as much time with him. it might help him forget about the pain even for a little while.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your dads health. This is very sad and hard on the family. Your dad is a real trooper and a hard fighter. If his lungs are filling up with fluids and they don't think they can't keep his lungs open he has a very short time left. If i were you i would make sure that you are at home specially at night and you and the family be there when it's is time to pass. I just hate to hear anyone who has any kind of cancer. Cancer is what took my moms life, she was so much in pain it was a blessing when God came for her. Very sorry about your dad. If you would like to talk with someone you can email me on this site and i will answer back. God Bless..

Darling, my wife was diagnosed with colon cancer while undergoing double bipass surgery a few years ago. We fought cancer in 1988 when we fought cervical cancer and WON! Now we are fighting it again, but in a different place. We don't think about when her life will end, but having a wonderful time while she is still here. Our Grand Kids ,Dee Dee(4) and Jackson (5)fill our lives with wonderful memories. My wife is tough!!!! We've even replaced both her knees and she keeps on plugging and she just hit 50. Your Dad knows that we all will go sometime, he just knows his time may be a little sooner. Your job is to be there for him and let him know you love him and That will be all he needs.

Its really hard to answer the question of when.My dad had colon cancer and they told us we might have a few months with him. He lived for 2 years, it depends on the will to live and acceptance by the person and their family. Just enjoy everyday with your Dad and let him know how much you love him.
