How can people become addicted to drugs? |
Honestly. I have been given various, so called addictive, painkillers. Once the dentist gave me percaset. That is when I found out what it feels like to be sea sick. I was soooo sick. I used to think that maybe if I assocated teh drug with making the pain go away, I would then become dependant on the drug to not have the pain. well they use it mostly everyday ,and they get hooked ,if they dont use it they get sick till they do use it It's called a disease. People start off with much better effects from these drugs and the problem gets out of control. Not everyone has the same reaction you did to them. Everyone has different levels of serotonin in their brain. Those who lack serotonin regulation, tend to have addiction problems. It's genetic. People who have members of their family that are addicted to things have a higher risk of being addicted to something, like drugs, or alcohol. That is what they like. They like to be totally wasted without a care in the world. I personally do not mind when my dentist prescribes me Vicodin, but I could not take more than a couple because otherwise I feel sick too and I could never take it regularly, makes me too damned stupid. But hey, this is America, live and let live! They enjoy that "sick" feeling... A nurse once told me if you are in real pain, you won't get addicted. When you abuse them or keep taking them you will be. I think some people are also more prone to addictions. Different people respond to certain medications differently. I have much the same reaction to Vicodin that you had, but I know people who have taken it and said that it helped them with their pain a great deal. There are a number of painkillers available, so say something to your doctor about it. its called dependency.... Sometimes, I think that drug addiction starts with other things, such as cigarettes, pot, driving fast...Addictive personalities run in my family, so I have made it a point to not smoke and if I do have a drink, it's maybe twice a year. Different medications make me terribly ill. I believe that people have different tolerances for certain things. What may be making you sick to your stomach may make the next person crave more. |
