Doctors refuse to continue cancer treatment? |
my grandfather 's docotrs neglected him and now he has stage 4 cancer and they told us that there is no point to continue treatment since he will die anyways. I don't understand, grandpa is alive and well and he is not chained to the hospital bed, so why would those bastards stop the treatment? can we sue them? i Don't know if you can sue them. have you asked your grandpa if he agreed to stop treatment? I know that is a very disturbing possibility to consider, but people will do that, rather than continue to suffer. I suggest that your family consider hospice care for him. A hospice provides support for the patient and the family as they dying process occurs, and they can provide pallative treatment (that is treatment for pain,)and often a volunteer is there with the family when the person passes on. Maybe you might want to consider this if nothing else. I was a hospice volunteer. To me, this would be the best road for everyone. Here is a link for you. You can't sue them. They know whether treatment is going to be of any use. It's a tough thing to hear. My wife died of melanoma 12 yrs ago. She was 44. When the doc told us there was no reason to continue treatment we were devastated. She still seemed healthy enough, but the cancer had spread toofar to be controlled. I spent weeks looking for other doctors or treatment centers. I was told by all I talked to that there was nothing to do. We just had to accept it and make the final 3 months as easy for her and us as possible. You have my sympathy, but at some point things become incurable. It depends on your grandfather's age and the stage of the cancer. Since it is stage IV, your grandpa would probably have to have a very strong treatment and it might kill him sooner than without the treatments. That would be one explanation. Get a lawyer that specializes in mall practice suites...they don't care, it's not their Grandpa! Heartless a lot of those doctors, they are not all this way, but some are...Good Luck! |
