How do I motivate myself to stay active and go to the gym? |
I am in my twenties and in average shape, not overweight. How can I get myself to stop making excuses and start going to the gym that I already pay membership fees to? Some of my excuses are that I don鈥檛 have time, I鈥檓 too tired, I鈥檒l go tomorrow, etc. They are just excuses though, and they won鈥檛 do me any good when I鈥檓 lying in a hospital bed from a heart attack or when I鈥檓 trying to catch my breath after walking up a flight of stairs. So how do I force myself to go since it is important for my short and long term physical and mental health? Gym Motivation is Necessary to Start An Exercise Program Wow, you just wrote that and you're not motivated. Look, I hate the gym. I would much rather play a sport, B-ball, football, raquetball or ride my bicycle to get my exercise. To motivate yourself, you must make the workout time be enjoyable. Bring your significant other and work-out and push yourselves together. Or a friend. You get the idea. so you need motivation fall in love find a workout buddy, you will see that they go and they will see that you go. A very symbiotic relationship. Why a gym. Here's the trick: only you can motivate yourself. Maybe you should bring the gym to you. Go out and buy an AbRoller and two 10 lb weights. Paying my member ship fees is the way to keep me motivated, because I dont like the idea of wasting my money. So, in exchange I get a good cardio workout, to keep my heart in shape, as well as the rest of my body, and plus, I met some great friends! Buddy system always helps too! Don't go everyday, you will get tired of it, make it a twice or three times a week thing. Don't set up too rigid of a workout routine. People tend to over-structure the whole thing and it saps your motivation. Don't push it too much, just take what your body will give you on any given day. Have fun with it! Try to schedule as a regular part of your daily/weekly activities. Is the gym close to your home/work? I've found going immediately after work is best for me. If I go home, I'll end up sitting down, watching tv, etc and not go. Don't try to do too much at first. You'll end up over-tired and very sore which will inhibit you from going again. Maybe start by going only 20 min initially (10 cardio, 10 weights). Then increase it gradually. You'll find once you overcome the initial inertia to go, you'll find yourself somewhat addicted to going on your scheduled days. Good luck. find some workouts friends or just think if my body shape is't good my girlfriend wil hate me i too went through this same problem and here is what I'll suggest based on my experience. I went thru the whole routine, gym, weights, and ab rollers at home, but as one of the other member said, I got bored of it. It felt like work and gets monotonous. So, now, I've enrolled in power yoga, after yoga is done, I'll enroll into salsa dance classes, after that I'll roller skate for few weeks at a park. I also power walk in my community for an hour. This way, u r learning somethign new that you'd never think of otherwise and still workout ur bod and make friends from differernt facets of life. Get a bicycle and ride. In between i go to gym once a week, so u see, u trick ur mind into liking it ( : Actually I can tell you a lot of things to do such as paste a picture of a pig on your Clothes Closet, or finding someone to enhance your best picture to a size 52, but would this really encourage you or would you have to find something with in yourself for motivation. Some people say the simply push it everyday. When they are tired, they push themselves to the gym, lazy, depressed, in-love, whatever, they simply push themselves. Maybe you can motivate yourself to be a pusher. Once you start seeing results you will stay motivated the big step is getting through the beginning. You won't see results quick just know that your working to keep your body healty and that will be good in the long run. Or you can have a friend go with you or make friends while your there that usually makes it easy to work out everyday with a friend. get a good friend to go with you. this way you both can go together Look at yourself in the buff in a full length mirror. Look in the mirror. That's all I have to do. 1. Take unflattering pictures of yourself and hang them in your mirror. Don't suppose you're in E3 and need a gym buddy? Who's your membership with? im the same @ the begining of the week and the first time I go, i find that i cant do that much, but then the the next time its all good!! each time you think that .remind yourself you are going to be the fattest and the most ugly person ever andyou will be so fat that you wouldn't be able to go out the door to get your food and you will starve to death. think about a handsome man (or a pretty woman) that is waiting for you... MINI THINS...or something like it. I use Double Action Ephedrine..there all for asthma, so if you have that trouble this won't work...but if you don't have asthma this will give you TONS of energy, you won't be able to sit still! Take 2, thats what I do anyways... Imagine how good you will look at the next party/ function/ etc you Start by taking a half hour walk outside (or run if you're so inclined). If you like the results of that exercise, it might motivate you to go to the gym for some weight training. Some people answered you by putting tons of details i workout in the gym and its simple, try to put some on in your head to try to get better than him (physically) its like a challenge. See the advantages of going to the gym you will be impressed, and the dangerous disadvantages of being inactive. If you are empty for example.... tommorow and you can go to the gym (meaning transportation and not having work) you can promise urself u r going and when u go u will start running on the treadmill ,the bicycle , strech and carry weight you will keep on the practice its something like taking a shower in a really cold winter then when u run the water u find out it was easy repeat the steps and you will get motivated. I used to get lazy I came at night when the gym was opened only for elders about 7:00pm my trainer told me come 9:00am and i am i got used. DO IT! hehehehe hi well working out is not only thing that can help you stay in shape.eating the right foods and jogging, running in place. |
