RE. Hot spots??

Hi guys,

I am disabled and also suffer from kidney failure. I go for dialysis 3 times a week for just under 5 hours at least, so things get tedious for me.

I have heard u guys talk about hot spots where u can somehow use ur lapton to access internet. I read about u get these hot spots in rail stations etc.

Is it possible to do the same at my renal unit which is sited next to hospital main building. If its possible to access the internet from the hospital, could someone please explain to me in plain simple english how it is possible and how it is done, do I need any extra equipment?

Thanks guys

those are internet cafes there everywhere im sure that if you just go out and ask someone in the area they will tell you where one is.

You'll need a 'wireless card' for your laptop ... or you could get a possibly 'better' connection with another 'thingy' ... go to a good 'office supply store' that seels computers and parts and ask them. I'm sorry I can't remember what the other 'thingy' is called, but we are on 'wireless' internet, and we 'borrowed' a 'thingy' from our 'source' before we got the 'cards' (with a little 'antenna' that sticks out that you'll have to 'point' at the source of the wireless signal) ... BUT you should know that the hospital may have 'wireless' signals but you may need to have their 'numbers' to get onto that 'systeme' and use it ... but I presume that you live near that hospital because you get your dialysis there, and they should give you the 'numbers' to use when you are there, and they will work just as well in the 'buiding' next door or across the street.

If you have a button on your laptop that has an ((i)) type symbol and when you press it you see a blue light then it's likely you have wireless built in*. Look for an icon in the bottom right hand corner - looks like a TV with two brackets - )). Double click it and in the dialogue box that comes up look for an unsecured network. See if you can connect to it. If not, it may be secured by MAC address filtering. If you can connect then you should be able to use the internet.

* Intel Celeron or AMD Mobile Sempron chip for example.
