Has anyone ever had a tooth absess? |
My husband cracked his tooth this Tuesday of last week. We did not think nothing of it. He made a dentist appointment. This morning the entire right side of his face was swollen like an egg. My husband rarely complains about pain. I don't think I ever seen him in such terrible agony. He said Doctor NOW! Scared the heck out of me. I took him to the Emergency Room. I was shocked to see my husband put on an IV bag with antibiotics and they shot him up with morphine. He was in agony. They told me to go back home and I went back and got him a few minutes ago. He looks awful. He is on some powerful painkillers and additional antibiotics. He is sleeping now. Has anyone ever had this? Is there anything that I can do to make him more comfortable? It breaks my heart to see him in agony like this. Yes, I have had several! There is really nothing more that you can do. The antibiotics need time to work against the infection. Dentists cannot work on abscesses until the swelling and infection are reduced. This is because if they open up the tooth, the infection can spread throughout the body. ( also it would be extrememely painful ) yeh. absess is my middle name. ONCE HE GETS THE INFECTION OUT OF HIS SYSTEM HE SHOULD BE FINE My brother had an absess. It's painful but the infection should clear up and as soon as he gets a dentist to fix it, he should feel better in about 2-3 days. I think you have done all you can. When I was 19, my face swelled up like a pumpkin, and I had a painless abscess. That is, till they started drilling and draining it. If they are giving him antibiotics and pain medication and he's sleeping, he's probably fine. They aren't going to let him suffer. Just be glad you did what you did. This is very painful & serious. Look how close to the brain the teeth are! You did the right thing-don't wait to get him into the DDS for further treatment. This is nothing to mess around with! The problem with tooth abcesses is that the infection can get into your blood and cause major problems. They probably put him on antibiotics as a precaution. Aside from the painkillers that he was given at the hospital, the only other thing that might help is an ice pack on the side of his face where the abcess is. Other than that, have him get the tooth fixed as soon as possible and make sure that the dentist does a full exam to prevent the problem from happening again. Good luck- I hope he feels better. I had a wisdom tooth coming in and it absessed. Can you say ouch?! The tooth had to be taken out while it was still in my gum practically entirely. I was given pain killers and anit-biotics afterward and all was fine. Time & antibiotics are his friends. It will take a few days for it to kick in, but the swelling should go down within a few days and when the abscess clears, the dentist can get to the root of the problem to prevent it from reoccurring. i had an absess tooth it hurt, and my face was all swollen. just get an ap. at the dentist as soon as you can. and lots of ice. |
