How long does a bad pnemonia last?

Went to dr..gave me antibiotics for sinus infection n brochitis..wasnt working hacking so much it hurts terribly bad in my back n neck. so go back to er i get 2 breathing treatments n predsnisone....no better back in er 2 days later...same thing plus give me levaquin antibiotic in iv then send me home with a script of it...im not feeling too much better..still pain and still hacking horribly. what should I do? i use vaporizer @ night and take robitussin

Unfortunately pneumonia is one of those diseases that acts in concert with others ... and by weakening the body's immune system, decreasing oxygen saturation and generally gumming up the works, it can be fatal.

Indeed pneumonia is a common cause of death with the elderly (who are already immunocompromised). It was a far bigger cause of death previous to the concepts of anti-biotics, sterile fields, etc.

However, all other things being equal, if its left untreated but there are no other complications, in a formerly healthy adult, it will pass in two or three months.

However, all of those conditions make that statement useless. Who would sit still and not try to treat it?

I'd call them if tomorrow you aren't better these little 'treatments' may not be helping you at all and you may have a bout of it where they aren't sure of the strain - so several medicines need to be in place before one starts to target it.
Have they done blood tests? - A culture?
Head to the ER if you spike a fever - the coughing is a good sign to get the 'junk' out - have someone cup the back - and pat you to break up the 'mucous' - rest -

My dad had a very bad sudden bout (no symptoms but the flu) and he nearly died (he just felt he had the flu)
I'd try mucinex for the cough (it's a pill at the drug store)
If all is normal you may not start to feel yourself for a week to 14 days.

my wife just got over pneumonia she was in the hospital in Gainsville fl, for 1 1/2 month.she went through just what your going through.you need help right now.go to another doctor or something,this stuff will kill you.good luck!
