Getting a tooth with a porcelain crown pulled?

Alright, Im curious to how I can go about getting this done.. I believe I have a abbcess in the tooth at question here. Its the second to last tooth on the top row on the right side... I think its a mollar? but anyhow.. I had it root canaled and a crown installed a couple of years ago. Recently theres a lump in the gum above the tooth which is now rather painful. Iv been taking some old antibiotics iv had from another tooth infection last year for it in the mean while. I no longer have medicare or any insurance so anything I have done will come out of my own pocket.. thus I need to have it pulled since it is the cheapest way out.. I was curious if a dentist will be able to pull out this crown and tooth or if I will need to seek out a oral surgeon?

First of all, you need to see a dentist. He/she cannot do anything until the infection is cleared up. You need a new antibiotic for the one you are taking is probably expired and lost its potency.

Second, when you see your dentist, he/she will have evaluate the situation and is the only one to make the call; them self or oral surgeon.

Third, if you are lacking dental ins. and the funds to seek dental care, most dentists today offer something called "Care Credit." This is a dental credit card and you apply for it usually right in the office. You should see how much you can qualify for and this will give you the opportunity to afford to get you out of pain.

Good luck

I've had 15 root canals....yes, really.

It's not the tooth you think-that tooth has no root(if done right) and you should never have pain in that tooth again.

It 's probably the tooth next to it...tap the top of some of your teeth...you'll feel it.....lots of times with abcesses you think it's one tooth but it's another that's close.

Go to the dentist, get an x-ray and have it pulled. It won't be cheap-never is-but it willbe the cheapest, SAFEST way to go.

It is a molar. 1st or second , depending if you had your wisdom teeth( if you have 3 molars it will be your second molar, if you have 2 it is your 1st molar)
you will have to go to the dentist any way, It may be able to be removed via syringe... either way ALWAYS try to save the tooth, get to the dentist, these absesses can cause a blood infection, and being in the area of your HEAD, don'e mess with this and do not put off going to a dentist for visit- they can bill you usually,
but, get the opinion of a dentist , and SAVE the tooth, missing teeth cause more harm than the saving of a few bucks now..
I was a dental tech. for 12 years

They should be able to pull it. Even if the crown comes off they can remove even just roots.

Get an xray taken of the tooth first before you make any assumptions... the pain may be 'referred' from another tooth, making you think it's from this one...

The antibiotics you are taking are not doing you any good... get rid of them, their shelf-life has expired.

As far as having the crowned tooth extracted, there's a chance that the crown may break off during the procedure.. but don't worry, the dentist will be able to remove the rest of it with ease.
