I have strep throat and can't keep any liquids or foods down.....help? |
I was diagnosed with strep 6 days ago..The symptoms keep getting worse and I had to go to the hospital Saturday because I was so dehydrated. They also gave me an IV with antibiotics to get rid of the strep even though I had taken my prescription antibiotics the dr. gave me....but I still can't keep anything down and have been vomiting at least once an hour...It seems like I've tried everything but i've never been this sick in my life...what should I do? The toxins created by the strep go into the stomach and that is why you are still throwing up. Go back to the Dr. It may have been that the strep was resistant to the antibiotics and you are still sick. I've had it. It will get better. Start with jello or vanilla ice cream or even just ice. Take care Strep throat never makes you vomit, but you might be having a reaction to the antibiotics, this has happened to me. Call your doctor, they might need to change your meds ASAP. go to a different dr and meanwhile look up strep throat on the web. also are you sure it's not mono? i hope you aren't kissing with this illness. Probably the best and worst way to kill the nausea and hold down food would be to smoke a joint. Beleive me or not it works.... and by the way you didn't hear that from me. The symptoms of strep throat are headache, nausea/vomiting, and of course an extremely sore, scratchy throat. However your case seems to be worse. I highly recommend going to the doctor ASAP, or calling one. Because your immune system is susceptible to more germs, you may have contracted another illness from someone else. When i was a little boy my mom would make jello use half the water to dissolve it and then pour the dissolved mix in to the rest of the water. it works well keeps you hydrated and fills you up I feel for you.....I had strep also, and I also had to go to the hospital. The best thing you can do is to keep taking the meds, it will take at least 6 to 8 days from the time you were diagnosed. Also, try to keep drinking as many fluids as you can (except sodas), and some Pepto for the vomiting. The doc also said for me to take over the counter pain meds for the pain in my throat....Ibuprofen worked for me. Try and increase the humidity in your home, keeps your throat moist. After all that, the best thing is plenty of bed rest. I hope you start to feel well, being sick at Christmas sucks. |
