I had infection in hips after THR, MRSA in left and infection in right could the right hip have bone infection

I had my right hip replaced in June 2001, the day after I ended back in hospital with an infection and in excrutiating pain. Then in August 2001 I had the left hip replaced and came out with MRSA in that hip. I had many complications during surgery including anaphalaxix from IV antibiotics and blood transfusion. Since then I have had continous pain in my right hip and was told you can't have pain in a plastic prothesis. I have tried to check if I could have a bone infection and osteomyletis sounds to be the only explanation to the pain. I see a pain specialist who says the pain is referred from my facet joints but the pain is definitely isolated in the hip area. Does anyone have any thoughts on this

Ask for a bone scan. I had a problem with my elbow
replacement, I kept being told the x rays look ok, I was in a lot of pain. Rheumatology sent me for a bone scan, it showed an infection in the elbow. The surgeon took the joint and 20 mills of pus out, I spent 4 weeks in hospital on I V antibiotics and another 3 weeks on oral antibiotics. I am waiting now for another replacement elbow joint. keep on to them, you know your boby.

I too have had BOTH hips replaced - mine are Titanium steel - but nonetheless I still get pain from them - mainly down into the groin -. Whilst pain is nowhere near as bad as before the operation - its still there - I think its now a case of 'living' with it. I have been prescribed Morphine 'patches' to counteract the pain.

Man, i'm so sorry for all your complications and pain. i just had my left hip replaced and thank God it is going really well. I still get alitte bit of pain (in the groin area too sometimes) but like right now i have NO pain from my hip. I just had it done in Jan. 07!!!!!! I had an excellent doctor/surgeon who did them all day....i think the doctor who does your surgery has ALOT to do w/results! and u probably got that infection while IN the hospital...that makes me so MAD!! I would ask for a bone scan like the person said below. I'm sorry, i do not know what Mrsa IS? WHAT I SUFFER FROM IS SCOLIOSIS. I HAD MY LUMBER FUSED IN 2005 and that is why i had to have knee surgery and then THR because of my back! Just be fortunate u don't have back problems. THEY ARE A BITw#@#$@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO, GET A 2ND OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! iF U HAD A GOOD PAIN DOC HE SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO??????
