Does laying down make an ear linfection worse? |
I have a very severe ear infection. What happened is this. All of a sudden in the middle of the night I woke up with bad ear pain and me ear was swollen. So I went to the docs the next morning and he said I had a bad ear infection. He put in a wick so I could get drops through my swollen ear. I was ok for that day but then once I layed down and feel asleep for bed I woke up at 1 a.m. and I was in the worse pain of my life and my whole side of my face was severly swollen! I rushed to the ER where they drugged me up with pain meds and IV antibiotics. I am taking 2 kinds of antibotics and pain medicine. But every time I lay down my ear hurts. It doesnt matter any which way I lay. If my head is tilted it starts hurting. ANd I feel like it makes my ear infection worse and I am so scared that my ear will get bad a swell like crazy again. It is still a little swollen. So I have been sleeping sitting up. But it is hard to sleep like that. ANyone know if laying down normally does this? Thanks Oh, it hurts even if my head is tilted a little bit. It has to be straight up. And now I worry I will get swollen and the really bad pain if I try to lay down : ( That's normal. I would strongly suggest sleeping upright till your ear infection goes away. Sleep with a couple extra pillows surrounding your head to keep it straight. If it's possible sleep in a chair. If you tilt your head, it add pressure to your ear so that's why it hurts. If it still hurts, contact your doctor Hmm, it sounds as though your ear just doesn't want to be helpful! Even with anti biotics. I guess if you can't lay down on either side, you could try lying on your back with a few pillows piled up so you're up higher or somehow lay down without having your ears touching the pillow. |
