Will Pseudomonas kill me?

Just a quick background summary:
I have a pretty serious infection from lap band surgery in 06 that was diagnosed as pseudomonas. It has caused the tubing of the band to actually protrude through my stomach leaving a draining wound. My surgeon has attempted going in, cleaning it out, and burying the band, but the infection continues to find the path of least resistance and reopen the wound. I've been on oral antibiotics, and was hospitalized for a week to receive IV antibiotics, which did not help.

My question is, how long can I live w/ this infection? I know it's not something that's going to go away on it's own, but it won't kill me.... will it? I guess I'm wondering how worried I need to be.

A culture needs to be run on it so the right antibiotics are given.
It can be very serious.

Umm, this is really a question that you should ask your doctor...someone who is qualified to answer

You only had antibiotics by IV for One Week?

Most of the time they give antibiotics for TWO to SIXTEEN WEEKS!

You might want to get a different opinion.....

Here is a link that explains about what Psuedomonas can do to a person.

A Pseudomonas infection can be quite serious. It can lead to sepsis (blood infection) which can be fatal.

Pseudomonas (any of the species can be tough to treat) can be a highly resistant organism, requiring the proper combination of antibiotics and expert wound care.

From what you describe, I think you need to be referred to an Infectious Disease specialist and be set up with a Wound Care center that can help manage your condition.

Surgeons are not the best equipped to handle these types of on-going, chronic infections.

At this point, the longer you wait, the more likely irreversible tissue damage will occur.
This will only get worse as time goes on unless you receive some agressive treatment from a specialist.
If you have an insurance care line, give them a call to see what your options are.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Amen Tech... Pseudomonas is nothing to play with.

Wonder if a C and S was ever done????
