Homeopathic immune boosters?

I had scoliosis surgery a few years ago, a got MERSA and managed to work through that with IV antibiotics and they re-opened the incision twice to clean it out. After i got off IV antibiotics I went down hill, it turned out I had a second infection that required the rods to be removed and a different set of IV antibiotics. It has been almost one year since the hardware was removed and I still struggle with poor appetite, therefore making it a struggle to eat what is best for me. I am supplimenting with several things to boost my immune system, I am also taking Iron, Mg, Ca, Vit. D. Greens, echenacia, Noni, and a liquid vitamin with Noni. It all taste horrible but I want to be as strong as possible. After all, my surgery was a success, the infections were the problem. What are your thoughts on all of this? Do you think I am doing the right thing by adding immunity help. There always seems to be this struggle between Dr's and adding homeopathic, natural suppliments.

If you do go for alternative medicine, stick to herbal or acupuncture. There's some evidence that these will work beyond the placebo effect. Homeopathy has been shown, again and again, to not work. It simply creates a placebo effect.

If you want something homeopathic, you'll want to visit a homeopathic doctor. Taking something off the shelf that's listed as homeopathic might not be the specific thing that your body needs, while a homeopathic doctor will give you exactly the homeopathic thing that your body needs. When it's done properly, homeopathic medicine gives MUCH better effect than placebo... most of the "studies" done with it don't do it properly, they just give everyone the same medicine.

However, if you want natural products to help, I can give you several of those. Some of the most popular natural products for boosting the immune system are Colostrum, Mushrooms (Maitake, Shiitake, and Reishi), IP-6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate), Beta Glucans, Elderberry, Echinacea (should be taken short-term only), and any antioxidants.
In addition to those, my first suggestion for you is to get a regiment of good probiotics to replace the good bacteria that the antibiotics killed.... that's probably why you've been so sick. Replacing that bacteria will be your best first step to feeling better, the others will help to reinforce your immune system, though. Good luck!

I second the opinion that if you do go with alternative treatment, you stay conservative. I'd also recommend that you do some research on anything you consider before you take it. A lot of this stuff has not been tested prior to turning it loose on the public. You want to see that multiple double-blind studies were done first, and that most or all of these tests confirmed that the treatment had a beneficial effect, and that none showed anything detrimental. Ask the seller for information about how they were tested, by whom, and when and where. Ask for information on the active ingredients. Ask them what training they've had to diagnose ailments and treat them. Ask your doctor also if any of them would interfere with the treatments or prescription medications he recommends.

It's your body. Wouldn't you want to know all you can about what you put in it? Remember - arsenic, botulism, and strychnine are all completely natural, too.

I don't know anything about homeopathic immune boosters, but if you're going to take them, you had better keep your surgeon in the loop. He should know if there's something you *shouldn't* be taking.
