Child with pneumonia?

my daughter got pneumonia the 6th of April by the 9th she was admitted to the hospital for 3 days on IV antibiotics sent home on 10 day antibiotics (Cefzil) now she is on another antibiotic (Zithromax) and 2 puffers she doesn't seem to be getting better at all infact she has goten worse since being discharged from the hospital she has a fever every night of 38.2-39 and I'm trying to keep her comfortable any ideas??? she just wants to sleep and is now down to 26-28 lbs she's 4yrs old

she was perscribed the last med on monday by her dr.

Take her to a lung specialist, something is going on and your local GP should have advised you of this.

Have you seen the doctor since she came home? I would take her in immediately, and if needed, readmit her to the hospital. There is something going on!

Sounds like an ER visit is in order. My worry would be that she could become septic from the pneumonia or go into respiratory distress. Either way- whatever they did is not working and since she is a small child, you need to have her re- evaluated. If she is lethargic and listless, that is a big problem. Kids are not normally tired all of the time. The fever can make her tired and can even dehydrate her. Please get her looked at. You do not need any bad outcomes with your child- be persistent with her care, even if the doctor is annoying.

Being someone who suffered several bouts of pneumonia as a child I can say that this doesn't sound right at all. Sounds to me like they need to treat her with a more aggressive antibiotic, and possible another stay in the hospital. Good luck.

If i was you i would take her straight back to the hospital and get her checked out again ,,,,if she is that small and that tired then demand to see a doctor and dont leave till you are satisfied with the outcome.

Instead of puffers (or MDI's) she would better benefit from nebulized bronchodilators and steroids. At her age the puffers are not reasonable because she probably doesn't have the proper technique of inhaling the medication which is necessary. She would also benefit from chest physiotherapy which involves cupping your hands and clapping them against her back and chest to help break up the pneumonia. Stay on top of her fever, you can alternate Motrin and Children's Tylenol every 3 hours if necessary. Ask your doctor to prescribe her a home nebulizer, most insurance will pay for it. I hope this will be of some help. If she continues to worsen over the course of the night I would consider taking her to the E.R.

As a mom of 2 asthmatic kids who get pneumonia often I have gone through what you are describing. My suggestion is to call her doctor and ask if a nebulizer would work better than and inhaler. Also try to steer clear of any dairy products for a week weeks because it makes mucus thicker. Let her eat lots of Popsicles they well keep her hydrated and will also help reduce a fever. Of course use Motrin or Tylenol also to control it. If she is tried let her sleep this will help her body heal. If you think something is not right take her to the doctor or ER do not second guess yourself. the doctor sees your child every once and a while you see her everyday so you will have a better idea of how she is doing compared to her normal

I absolutely hate Zithromax!!!!! I have taken it several times and it never seems to work as well as other antibiotics. I highly recommend that you take you child back to the emergency ward to get a second opinion and be VERY FORCEFUL! The symptoms that you describe are just not right for a child of 4. Most likely she needs to be readmitted to the hospital for another round of IV antibiotic therapy. In addition, she probably needs nebulizers and steroids to open up her lungs which will have swollen due the irritation of the infection. And chest physical therapy would also be an option to help move the phlegm up and out of her lung. (This is gentle 'clapping' and vibration done against the chest wall to set up vibration in the airways.
