What antibiotic would be used for IV users infection at drug injection site? |
my son shot cocaine last night in his hand, this AM he came to me with the hand swollen and hot. the swelling has increased. It sounds to me like your son might have cellulitis in his hand. He needs to go to a doctor and get an antibiotic, usually something like Cipro or Bactrim, and then you need to take him to a treatment facility where he will get treated for his drug addiction. You can't do it alone, he needs help now! Take him to the doctor before it turns into blood posioning. Take him to the doctor/ER right away No offense but it sounds like he needs more than just help for an infection. If he is using cocaine, he needs help now. I have worked as an A&D Counselor for years and it seems that you might be enabling him if you are looking for an antibiotic. Yeah, get him to a hospital, if you need to ask here which IV antibiotic to use, you're not qualified to give it. Get your son the medical attention he needs. You asked what antibiotic "Would" be used. This deserves an answer. If the infection is spreading beyond the injection site and/or he is a fever, intravenous antibiotics will probably be needed. If the infection is localised broad spectrum antibiotic such as Augmentin would probably be effective (NB Avoid if Penicillin allergic. help your son with all your power.I was on drugs for 25 years we do not want him to go that long,he might die. Take him to the hosp. right away. I o d twice but God had mercy on me I made it out alive scared but alive. I agree completely with "the othompkin". This is sound and knowledgeable advice and information. |
