Can heavy antibiotics create diabetes? |
My mohter was on a lot of antibiotics when she was in the hospital. Now she is having swolen joints and her left big toe is inflamed. Also she is having a problem with her right fourth toe. Her last glucose reading was 10. We fear her paralysis was due to medications and now we are having other problems arrive. The feelings are returning to her left side but she still has some numb areas in her left leg. During her stay in the hospital for a month, she was receiving medications for urinary track infections and then a staph infection. This went along with the use of her regular medications and the high rate of Iv promethazine and fentynal. Her white platelet count was low but was showing much better when we left the hospital. Due to her health conditions she has very little exercise. Don't think diabetes can be caused by antibiotics, but it would be possible if they damage her pancreas. a glucose reading of 10 is definitely not diabetes, in fact that is very very low and i find it hard to believe that was actually a measure of blood glucose. as far as the question goes, antibiotics do not cause diabetes There is no evidence that antibiotics cause diabetes. Being overweight is one of the leading causes. I am sorry you mother is having medical problems. I hope she is soon feeling better. |
