7 days of hospital IV antibiotic's now I have Rx for Augmentin, if I don't take them will it make any diff? Yes. Your MD is basing the need for continued antibiotics on your labs and cultures that were checked while in the hospital. He/she decided that you needed a continued course of antibiotics after discharge to continue protection against the infection and to prevent reinfection---in other words follow his/her instructions! Get well! yes, not taking antibiotics for a complete course is why we have antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria now. There is a reason why your doctor have continued to let you take your antibiotics after having the IV ones. Some bacterias are heard to eliminate and that is why a longer course of antibiotics is indicated. If you were ask by your doctors to take antibiotics at a prescribed time, do it. You don't want your infection to linger for a long time, right? and we definitely don't want you to be resistant to the drug that you are taking. |
