If you were hospitalized for copd and on IV steroids and antibiotics what could cause you to baloon up and? |
gain 30 lbs. overnight? This happened to me a couple years ago. I checked out and went to another hospital. To up all night. The nurses are the ones who got me that messed up. The doctors had ordered my medications to be changed the previous evening. The nurses hooked me up to the wrong medications that evening and in the morning again. The doctors orders were there and no one followed them. That is why I checked out. I did gain 30 lbs. and had to be put on diuretics. The weight was gone in 3 days. I had to leave the hospital in just my robe and no shoes or slippers as I could not get anything else on my body due to swelling. A common side effect of steroids is weight gain. the steroids cause retention The steroids. Most are taken by injection so an IV is going right to the source; your veins. Then it goes into your tissues of your body in a hurry. that is the side effects of steroids. especially, prednisone. Have a hard time believing the 30lbs overnite, but could be the steroids, could be fluid, could be an allergic reaction, etc. You didn't give them time to figure out the reasons why. I mean, it happened overnight, right? You shouldn't have checked out unless they weren't addressing the issue. I'm sure you had to sign a release form stating you left 'Against Medical Advice', unless you just went AWOL. Patients like yourself make an extremely difficult job impossible because your expectations exceed medical capabilities. In other words, you expect the docs and nurses to cure you overnite and blame them when it doesn't happen or our fault for an un-wanted side effect. But we know that basically you're just unhappy with the world. So we understand, or we try to. After all, we respect patients' rights above all else. I put on 40 lbs in a few weeks |
