Anything else I can do for Colitis?

I went to the medical center a week ago and was told I was "severly dehydrated". They gave me an IV and bag of saline. I went in for cat scan few days later and was diagnosed with Colitis. I was put on Viacodin for severe abdominal pain and Flagyll for the infection. I have been on Flagyll for 4 days now and still have diarrhea and abdominal pain and am weak. I may be weak because I am still dehydrated (drinking lot of water and gatorade) but don't know why I still have other symptons. Anyone else get diagnosed with this, what did you do for the unbearable pain (only time I can relieve it is when I lay on my bed on my stomach), how long until you got better? I was informed I may have C Diff (waiting for those results), and if I do I may be put on another antibiotic. Would the Flagyll take care of the C Diff also?

A recent article I read (and didn't save) recently said that ANY antibiotics can cause C diff. It is very hard to treat. The one best thing you can do is add probiotics in either pill form, or kefir 3 x a day. You need to get your bacteria balanced back out along with other treatments. Take probiotics in the middle of antibiotic dosing.

DON'T drink Gatorade!! The refined sugars in it feed your bad bacteria AND suppress your immune system. Avoid all refined sugars - that included white table sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and most sugars you find in processed foods.

Only natural sugars from 100% juices (clear are best- apple, cranberry, blueberry). You can also do teas sweetened with honey. Stevia is a great sugar substitute. DON'T do artificial sweeteners, they stress your kidneys and will make your body focus somewhere other than where it needs to be working. And, yes, lots of water. You can add a teaspoon of sea salt to a glass of water daily and drink that to help keep your salt balanced (that is what they did with the IV really).

With diarrhea it is always best to fast for 24 hours - liquids only.

If this is more than sudden onset, and you have been dealing with digestive issues long term, then you need to get and read Jordan Reubin's "The Great Physician's Rx to Health and Wellness" and Dr. Janet Maccaro's "90-Day Immune System Makeover" and incorporate their suggestions into your life.

I'm pretty sure it's certain antibiotics for C Diff but since you are already taking an antibiotic for your colon I'm not sure.. For colitis you can be in pain and also with C Diff. Colitis is inflammation in your colon/ ulcers. You can have diarrhea for awhile and then it stop and out of no where it may start again..C Diff also causes diarrhea. The reason you are dehydrated is from the diarrhea, if you become extremely dehydrated and aren't able to properly hydrate yourself at home I would think you should be admitted and hooked up to a saline UV. I would exercise regularly and watch what you eat. Avoid too many carbs, greasy, and fatty food. Hope this helps.
