Index Finger Cut? |
I cut my Left index finger in sharp metal studding today. It is a pretty deep cut. It stopped bleeding after about 15 minutes. It still has super small amount of bleeding/seaping. It Hurts. Iv been rinsing it with peroxide every few hours and using triple antibiotic ointment. Any other suggestions? I don't doubt it hurts. For starters, lay off the peroxide. That stuff kills healthy cells along with the bacteria. If it's still bleeding at this point, you probably should go on to the ER. I don't know if they will be able to do stitches, but at the very least they can steri-strip it to stop the oozing. Otherwise, just put the antibiotic ointment on, and a bandage, and leave it be in peace for a while. Tomorrow morning, change the bandage and apply the ointment again, repeat again in the evening. Your body should be quite able to handle the rest, and you won't help matters any with the continued meddling. If it starts to ooze pus, or otherwise looks infected, then you will have to see the doctor. It's still a good idea to have it checked today. If you need stitches, they need to go in fairly quickly. And at the very least, you need it not to be bleeding. Plus, you may need a tetanus booster. go to the hospital and it sounds like you need stiches See a doctor. you said it's pretty deep, so you don't know how much bacteria was shoved deep into that wound before you started your cleanup regimine. Anyway, I've always looked at a little blood flow as a good thing. try some ice in a baggie though. the cold should help the clotting process. if you need some insulation between you and the baggie, use a fine linnen cloth, not a terry towel. a regular towel will only rip the wound open when you pull it away. if it's still hurting tomorrow, see a doctor. pain that lasts too long means something else is going on that we can't see. Ok here is a question for you. Have you had a technashot in the past 7 years? If you haven't being it is metal you can get a very bad infection from it. If you have had your shot than you are over your limit to go to the ER to get stitches there is nothing they can do about the gap there now. You only have 8 hours to get stitches or your skin won't grow back together. The bleeding seeping is because it was deep enough to get stitches, but being you can't now all you can do is keep it clean and don't put a regular band aid on it go and get the square bandage cloths and some medical tape and antibiotic ointment like neosporin or even the off brand is fine as long as it says antibiotic ointment on it. But the important thing is, don't keep it on there for days and days and days, if you keep a cut wet it won't scab over and heal. You have to let it get some air when you can but still keep it clean. I would just use the antibiotic ointment for the first few days to make sure infection doesn't set in and than keep the cloths (gauze bandage) on it for a few more until you can tell it is starting to scab, but being it is deep for one it will take a little more time to heal and it will most likely scar. Hope this helped! Good luck! |
