What are some common reasons behind urinary tract blockages in a 1 yr old boy? |
My baby had a high fever and was dehydrated, so I took him to the ER. They gave him an IV for the dehydration, and suspected a UTI. The ER nurse, and then the doc tried, unsuccessfully, to catheterize him. They bagged him, and the urine culture showed Strep B & Staph infections. After his antibiotics were done, he went to his Ped. for a re-check. The cath. was unsuccsessful again, it would only go in about 2-3 inches, and came out bent at the tip. The dr. referred us to a urologist, and for an ultrasound of the kidneys & a VCUG, which was today. During the VCUG, the x-ray showed that the cath only goes as far as his prostate gland, and then it meets resistance & won't go any further. Two nurses tried 3 times, and they tried using the smallest cath. set the hospital carries, but it wouldn't go any further. You might find it is where the passaging has not grown properly and has stayed very narrow not blocked this is useally rectified with a small opperation where they widen the passages sometimes useing a special tube which they will then leave in there untill the area has formed properly they sometimes do a small op where they widen the tubes by removing excess tissue which can also cause narrowing of the tubes which ever the problem may be do not worry it is a common problem in very young children and is rectified very easily , The other problem you also get from this is a kidney reflux where the urine does not come out straight away but goes back into the kidneys this is another common problem , my daughter suffered with this it gave her high temperture and a kidney infection they call it water infection this is cleared up with antibiotics and she had to be kept very clean and had to go to the toilet alot plus drink plenty of fluids , she does not suffer with this now as she has outgrown it .. Whatever the outcome goodluck and dont worry to much doctors have come along way in the past 10 years and you will find they will sort this out for you very quickly. i'm so sorry to hear that.. poor baby... as a mother i know how painful it is to see your little guy suffering.. i hope the doctors can give you some straight answers.. until then i found a few things that might help: |
