What to Do When a Pharmicist fills a prescription with the Wrong Drug? |
I Have a prescription of Darvocet 100/650 that I take for Chronic Pain, My latest Rx however, was Mixed with the generic white coated pills, and some that are Scored & uncoated. Sometimes I get different colors etc..so I didn't think anything of it .Well after Taking the Rx as Written, Iv'e for the last WEEK Been SICK, Throwing up, just feelin like Crap, so through process of elimination, I Identified these NEW pills mixed in , probably 3/4 are the NEW ones. I Found out WHY I'v'e been so ill, These pills that are SUPPOSED To Be Darvocet/Generic , Are NOT AT ALL for PAIN, infact I've Been wondering WHY no Pain Relief, well, the answer is, The NEW pills are Antibiotics! Sulfamethoxazol-IP 272..800mg. I'm At A losss about WHAT TO DO about it. I could have had a really bad reaction to this stuff, I'm taking it 4x a day, whats Worse, is My Husband Has allergies to 'Sulfa drugs' , and Has Chronic Back pain due to a Spinal fusion, and on Occaision, when HE's out of his, will take mine! HELP! First off stop taking the pills. Take yourself and the bottle back to the pharmacy ask to speak with the pharmacy manager. not the store manager. Tell them what happened and how you feel. See if they can ID the errant tablets. Ask for the address of the District manager of the pharmacy and write a letter. in your letter only state the facts of the situation not the what ifs and this could have happened that you included here Speculation has no place here. Pharmacies take this kind of thing very seriously and have policies on how to handle them. After the tabs are ID ed have the pharmacist call your Dr and you then follow up with your own call to the MD. I know you are upset but the calmer you are the better things will be. and by the way do not mention your husband allergies they have no legal bearing on this situation. He should never take anything prescribed for you and nor you his meds. Wow, you guys take enough pills! Talk to your doctor or pharmasist. Were not doctors, but common sense would dictate to stop taking the wrong meds and never share medications. GET AN.... ATTORNEY.... AND..... " Start a Law Suit !" Call a lawyer, sue they *** off... take it back and say that there are 2 differnt things in it because if you take the wrong thing it can heart you Bring them back to the pharmacy. Mistakes happen. Educate yourself on what your medication is supposed to look like. Your health is ulitimately your own responsibility. First and foremost talk to your doctor and let him/her know about the medication mix-up. It's important that your doctor know you had a reaction to the antibiotic you got your hands on by mistake. (Like your husband, I'm allergic to sulfa drugs so I'm incredibly paranoid about antibiotic allergies.) Next, talk to the pharmacist and ask to lodge a formal complaint (in writing) against the pharmacy and/or pharmacist or technician that filled the perscription. If this is a national chain that filled the scrip you'll want to make sure that there's record of the mixup with their corporate office. Good luck! Go back to the pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist. Go back to the pharmicist and tell them what happened and have them fix the problem. They need to know if someone there is not paying attention to what their doing. look at the paper the doctor gave you. Perhaps you should be askin him. Druggists only fill out the orders. I would seriously go back to the pharmacy, ask to talk to the manager, and also tell them that you inted to take legal action. I would go to a different pharmacy from now on, also. Go BACK to the pharmacy and let them know what is going on! They need to know they have employees that are making possibly fatal mistakes! They will advise you on how to take of the situation from here on out. Good Luck. First of all you need to call a lawyer then let them tell you what to do hoping you still have some of those pills youll be able to show the drug store there mess up if your lawyer says go!!!!!!Well i can see you don't take much pain meds ,Cause i can't get over how you still thought i'd be in pain after taking darvocet, darvocets are week but you should have known well be more careful (GOOD LUCK) Well if you always take these drugs you should have known they weren't the same thing espcially getting sick from them for a week....DUH!!! Take them back to the pharmcy and tell them what happened and also go see your doctor and tell him/her what happened and they can probably advise you on something better to do.....good luck.. Go back to the pharmacy and let them know that someone there filled the prescription wrong. It's up to the pharmacy to hire employees who know exactly what they are doing. By looking into a computer, they can tell who filled yours. They should be aware that they have someone there who is not paying attention! NEVER SHARE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS... Notify the pharmacy that screwed up the prescription immediately!!! If they won't or say that they can't help you, then notify the doctor who prescribed them to you. They should be able to straighten things out if the pharmacy won't. |
